Arsene Wenger shortlists £30 million-rated Marco Reus amidst uncertainty over Alexis Sanchez’s future

The talks over a renewal between the Gunners and the Chilean superstar have reportedly reached an impasse, forcing Arsene Wenger to have a contingency plan in sight

It has been widely reported that Arsenal’s negotiations with their talismanic forward Alexis Sanchez over a new contract has reached a road-block due to the wage demands of the former Barcelona attacker. Sanchez is demanding a deal worth £200,000 per week, a sharp rise from his current earnings of £130,000-a-week, but the Gunners are said to be reluctant to break their stringent wage structure.

As such, the contract stand-off has alerted the likes of Manchester City and Juventus, who would be willing to offer a blank cheque to entice the Chilean international.

Now, English newspaper The Mirror have claimed Arsene Wenger has growing concerns regarding the future of Alexis Sanchez, with only 18 months left on the player’s current contract. As such, the Gunners head-coach is preparing a contingency plan for a potential Alexis Sanchez loss, with Borussia Dortmund’s superstar Marco Reus on top of the wishlist.

The report suggests Arsene Wenger is huge admirer of Marco Reus, and the Gunners manager had previously tried to sign explosive German forward on more than one occasion, but the player decided to stay put at Borussia Dortmund every time.

However, the German club are now said to be willing to listen offers in the region of £30 million for Marco Reus, considering the recent injury concerns of the player. The German international is currently recuperating from a groin injury that has sidelined him since May, but is said to be close to a return.

Mirror also reiterate Alexis Sanchez’s demand of £200,000-a-week contract and insertion of buy-out clause has been the bone of contention between the North London club and the player.

Considering Alexis Sanchez’s increasingly growing influence on the team, even more so in his new number nine role, Arsene Wenger must be hoping a middle-ground is reached soon between the player and the club. However, if the disagreements between the two parties continue to persist, Marco Reus could potentially turnout to be a very viable replacement.
