Premier League giants Manchester United are eyeing French wonderkid Moussa Dembele and are reportedly set to make a move for the Celtic striker in the winter transfer window

The Daily Mail have reported that record Premier League champions Manchester United are interested in signing Celtic forward Moussa Dembele. They added that the Red Devils will table a bid for the Frenchman when the transfer window opens in January.

20-year-old striker Moussa Dembele signed for Scottish champions Celtic in the summer from Championship side Fulham. His move to Parkhead has been a highly successful one thus far, having netted 16 times in 24 appearances in all competitions already. That translates to a ratio of 105 minutes-per-goal, an impressive number for a striker who is still in the early stages of his career.

United manager Jose Mourinho is said to be an admirer of Dembele’s talents, having watched the France under-21 international play for Fulham three times last season. And he had scout David Friio sent to monitor the striker in action of the France under-21 side against England, as Dembele went on to score a brace on Monday night.

Mail also went on to add that the Manchester United boss sees shades of former Chelsea charge Didier Drogba – who rose to stardom under the Portuguese – in Dembele.

However, talkSport reported earlier today that Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers has insisted that Dembele is growing nowhere in January and will continue his development in Glasgow. Rodgers said: “He [Dembele] signed a four year deal here and he’s only five, six months into it. He has only really just come in, he loves it here.

“It is a huge club, he gets idolised here, he is playing Champions League football and he is really, really enjoying this process of learning and playing for a big club. I’m sure at some point later down the line it may happen, but it is certainly not something we are looking at now.”

Celtic’s dismissal of United’s potential move for Dembele isn’t the only challenge that Mourinho will face in the pursuit of the French striker. Manchester City, Arsenal, Chelsea and Bayern Munich are said to be tracking the talented youngster too and sent their scouts to the under-21 international match at Bondoufle too.

Dembele has reinforced the belief that he is one of world football’s most promising young strikers, with a splendid start to his Celtic stint.  With Manchester United looking to act on their long-term interest in the Frenchman, it will be interesting to see if Brendan Rodgers can keep hold of his man.
