The London based club reportedly want to tie down their star striker for the long term following speculations of an interest from former club Atletico Madrid
In some excellent news for the Chelsea faithful, the club is expected to offer a new lucrative contract to their star striker, Diego Costa. English newspaper, Daily Mirror (h/t The Sun) report that Antonio Conte considers the forward as an indispensable part of the team, and as such, wants the club to tie him down for a longer tenure.
While the details of the offer – either the wages or the period – have not been revealed by the newspaper, they insist it will be a lucrative deal for the player.
Daily Mirror add Chelsea boss Antonio Conte has the full backing of owner Roman Abramovich in terms of transfers for the upcoming transfer windows, as well as shaping the future of the current squad in a bid to bring back success at the Stamford Bridge, with extending Costa’s current contract high on the agenda.
After a relatively poor last season at the club, Diego Costa has responded back it some style in 2016/17, scoring 9 goals while registering 3 assists in just 11 league appearances this season.
Considering the former Atletico Madrid striker’s recent form, it does seem an easy decision to initiate talks for a contract extension. Antonio Conte is clearly bringing out the best out of Costa, and the striker looks back to enjoying life in London again after a difficult year last year.
The extension would also put an end to the constant speculation which has been persistent in the last three transfer windows regarding the striker’s desire to return to his former club Atletico Madrid.
However, Chelsea remain optimistic Diego Costa will agree to extend the association with the club despite the rumours of Atletico Madrid’s interest. The lethal hitman has been one of the main reasons for Chelsea’s position so near at the top, and an extension can only bode well for the club.
