New manager Jose Mourinho’s hands-off approach towards the training sessions has reportedly left the Manchester United players fuming
According to Paul Hirst of the Times (h/t Metro), the United boss often leaves training sessions for his assistant coach Rui Faria to take charge. The Portuguese has a word with his players before the training commences, after which Faria steps to handle proceedings. Mourinho prefers watching his team train from afar and occasionally heads back into office without taking a look at his side.
This behaviour of the manager has reportedly upset the players and has left them slightly worried about the handling of the club. Most of the United players were used to Sir Alex Ferguson’s hands-on training drills and are feeling slightly left in the dark under the new man at the helm.
After seeing their side plummet to new lows in the past three seasons, the fans were hoping Jose Mourinho to bring back the positivity at Old Trafford. Things looked to have taken off to a flying start when the Portuguese brought in four quality signings to the club in the summer.
Swedish striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic hit the ground running at his new club, but is currently on a barren spell where nothing has been going right for him. Paul Pogba too, is showing signs of struggle and is failing to maintain consistency. Henrikh Mkhitaryan has been restricted to just 45 minutes of playing time due to his ongoing injury woes.
While Eric Bailly has arguably been the best signing for the club in the window, his recent injury is will not help Mourinho’s cause who is expecting his side to pick themselves up and come out with a positive performance against Manchester City.
After suffering a catastrophic 4-0 defeat at the home of his former employers Chelsea, the United boss knows that he will be on the hot seat very soon if such performances persist. He is still to decide on his best possible eleven, and due to a number of big-name players at his disposal, he is facing a selection dilemma that he could well have done without.
