Jurgen Klopp, who recently completed a year as manager at Liverpool, has expressed his satisfaction over the way things have panned out since his arrival at the club.
In a very engaging conversation with Goal, the Liverpool boss reflected on his time at the club as he completes his first year since taking over the reigns from the sacked Brendon Rodgers as well as talked on a range of other topics. The comments are sure to delight the Liverpool fans, as the former Borussia Dortmund talks highly about the club, its history and of course its fans.
Klopp reflecting on his first year, said “Having the opportunity to work for Liverpool is a dream come true and better than I imagined, actually. We’ve showed Liverpool fans the first steps and I love the idea of progressing together.”
“If the Liverpool fans are patient then we can achieve something special here”, he added.
And there can be little doubts about the above statement. The combination plays between their players has often left the opponents bamboozled while their high pressing has managed to disrupt the flow of even the best teams. Of course, it needs to be added the team has to do a lot better defensively but with time they will only get better.
In the short period since Klopp took over, the club managed to reach two cup finals – the FA Cup final against Manchester City and the Europa League final against Sevilla. But rather unfortunately for them, they failed at the last hurdle on both the occasions.
Klopp’s heavy metal football has resulted in Liverpool scoring the most goals (73) among all the teams in the 38 Premier League matches Jurgen has overseen as Liverpool’s manager. While as suggested earlier, there is room for improvement defensively, having shipped 50 goals in the same time-frame, the most for any club in the top 8.
This season, too, Liverpool have started with an attacking flair that can be matched by very few, scoring 18 goals in 8 games, and are only two points off the league leader’s Manchester City. If Klopp and Liverpool can continue in the same vein, there’s a good chance the team will be fighting for top honors come May.
