Transfer News: Barcelona secure pre-agreement to sign Palmeiras defender Yerry Mina

Palmeiras centre-back Yerry Mina has reportedly reached a pre-agreement with Barcelona.

Spanish publication Sport have revealed that Palmeiras centre-back Yerry Mina has reached a pre-agreement with Barcelona over a supposed transfer. The Colombian international has been on Barcelona’s radar for a few months, as per Sport, and the Blaugranes have finally been able to convince the 22-year-old.

Yerry Fernando Mina Gonzalez is a Colombian international who plays predominantly as a centre-back. The 22-year-old, who has two appearances for the senior national side, is contracted to Palmeiras until 2020. Yerry Mina is managed by his uncle Jair Mina, who confirmed the news reported by Sport, in an interview to Colombian radio channel Radio Caracol.

Jair Mina said to Radio Caracol, “He’s signed a pre-agreement and there’s the chance that the boy will arrive at Barcelona.” The player’s agent also said that Barcelona representatives were present during Colombia’s fixture against Uruguay on Tuesday during the international break and that they had come to see Yerry.

But Jair was quick to add that the transfer to Barcelona is not a certainty and that the deal was far from being done. Yerry’s agent revealed that there are other teams ‘of a grand level in Europe’ that are interested in the 22-year-old and that the transfer to Barcelona is dependent on the circumstances and the desire of the player.

Mundo Deportivo had reported earlier that Yerry Mina’s current contract includes a preferential option that enables Barcelona to move for and sign the player for a supposed fee of €9m at any point of time within 2019, an advantage the Blaugranes had agreed with Palmeiras as per the report.

Nevertheless, the hierarchy at Barcelona would be happy to have reached a pre-agreement to sign the centre-back who was reportedly on Barcleona’s radar in the summer and was linked with a €9m move to the Spanish giants for their B team. But Barcelona brought in Marlon Santos from Brazil and decided to let Mina continue his growth with Palmeiras while keeping a keen eye on his progress.

The towering centre-back would also be delighted at the opportunity to sign for a club as iconic as Barcelona but is likely to keep his options open, with the Colombian international fully aware that he will not be an automatic part of the first-team setup upon arrival at Nou Camp.
