Manchester United, Chelsea, Arsenal and Liverpool are reportedly among a number of Premier League clubs interested in Charlton wonderkid Ezri Konsa.
Daily Mirror have claimed, in their article on Thursday, that the Charlton wonderkid is attracting interest from a host of top Premier League clubs. The English youngster managed to break into Charlton’s side this season under manager Russell Slade and has impressed the on-lookers with his defensive work.
A number of clubs are reported to be in pursuit of the defender and Charlton are bracing themselves for multiple offers in January for the player. The club is also aware of the difficult task of convincing Konsa to stay, with clubs like Chelsea, Manchester United, Liverpool, Arsenal and Manchester City all keen on the defender.
The clubs are among a host of clubs in the Premier League keeping a keen eye on the 18-year-old. Daily Mirror also added that there were a number of scouts and representatives from other clubs monitoring the player’s performance in multiple games this season, including the 1-1 draw against Oldham on Tuesday night.
Ezri Konsa has been at Charlton ever since he signed up for the club’s under-11 team and has risen through the ranks and has now seemingly become a regular for the League One outfit, making 7 starts already in the league this season.
Konsa is a natural ball-playing defender with the ability to play as a midfielder as well, which is seen as a real plus in players nowadays with the need to change tactics frequently.
The 18-year-old signed a professional contract in December of 2015, which runs till 2019 and could command a handsome fee seeing as he would also qualify as a home-grown player for the clubs.
While Manchester United and City’s recruitment drive has been in full flow, Liverpool have also upped their youth scouting since the appointment of Jurgen Klopp. Chelsea are always on the lookout for exciting youngsters and are currently linked with a number of defenders with the club in a defensive rut. It might be Arsenal, however, who could excite the youngster the most, with the example of Rob Holding, who arrived at Emirates this summer for a negligible fee and has already become a part of the first-team squad for Arsene Wenger.
Konsa looks promising and the 18-year-old seems set to have a fine career, but a move to a top club right now could go either way as it would present him with a greater level of infrastructure but would, in return, curtail the first-team game time that he is currently seeing at Charlton.
One can only speculate as to Konsa’s next destination, but it is almost certain that Charlton could face a barrage of bids from top clubs come January and may have no other choice but to agree a deal for the player.
