Liverpool FC manager Jurgen Klopp says Kop cannot compare to Dortmund’s yellow wall

When asked to comment on the fan support at Liverpool and Borussia Dortmund, Reds manager Jurgen Klopp claimed that the Kop does not compare to the ‘yellow wall’.

Klopp can do no wrong for Liverpool at the moment. The charismatic manager has led them to three remarkable victories already this season against Arsenal, Chelsea and Leicester City. Reds supporters will now be hoping that he can take them back to competing for the Premier League title after several seasons of below par performances.

The German manager was a guest on Sky Sports’ popular Monday Night Football show and was asked several questions during his time in the studio, one of regarding comparisons between the Kop and the fan support at his former club Borussia Dortmund.

“It’s different. I can say it is nothing compared to the Yellow Wall because 27,000 people are standing there, which is quite impressive,” Klopp is quoted as saying by Sky Sports.

However, the 49-year-old manager added that Liverpool’s new 22,000-seater stand was also impressive, and credited the Anfield faithful for creating ‘the best half an hour’ he has ever had in football.

“It was the last half an hour against Dortmund. I’ve had a lot of nights where the atmosphere is brilliant and amazing, but this half an hour was the best,” said Klopp. “I don’t want to compare, I am a really lucky guy that I have been at two wonderful clubs.”

The Dortmund fan support at the Signal Iduna Park is regarded as one of the most passionate in the world of football. Nicknamed the ‘yellow wall’, the atmosphere at Dortmund’s home games is almost magical as supporters of the club cheer their team on.

Klopp spent seven years at Borussia Dortmund, winning two Bundesliga titles, and is highly regarded by fans of the club. He even tried to bring some of his Dortmund customs to Liverpool — most notably doing the post-match salute to the fans at Anfield last season.

However, the atmosphere in football stadiums around England is much different to that in Germany. To match one of the most impressive home atmospheres in world football, the Kop will surely have to take their game up a notch.
