Manchester United are reportedly keeping an eye on Atletico Madrid youngster Bernard Mensah with Jose Mourinho interested in the Ghana International.
Bernard Mensah has been making waves in the European footballing scene since making his debut in Portugal. The youngster caught the eye of Atletico Madrid manager Diego Simeone last summer and the Argentinian did not hesitate one bit in splashing the cash and bring the player to the Spanish capital.
Mensah is yet to make his official debut for Atletico Madrid though, having been loaned immediately to fellow Spanish side Getafe, wherein he featured in 10 competitive matches, but failed to make his mark. The attacking midfielder is currently on a season-long loan at his former side Vitoria Guimares, where he impressed enough to secure a move to Spain in the first place.
Like El Cholo, Jose Mourinho seems to have also been smitten by the young attacking midfielder’s talent and skill-set and is reportedly keeping an eye on the Ghanian’s progress. The Sun have reported that Manchester United had sent scouts to watch the youngster on Saturday as he featured for Vitoria Guimares in a 1-1 draw with Belenenses in the league.
It is worth noting that Manchester United were linked with a move for Mensah in the summer of 2015 before the player secured a transfer to Atletico Madrid and the Red Devils were again rumoured to be interested in a deal for the player in the summer transfer window of the current season.
The constant speculation coupled with the fact that the youngster is managed by Jorge Mendes, who by happenstance is Jose Mourinho’s agent too, has fuelled the rumours of an impending move. It is reported, however, that the 21-year-old is highly regarded by Jorge Mendes, who has recommended the player to Jose Mourinho and Manchester United.
Manchester United, though, are not the only team following the youngster closely with representatives of AS Monaco and Sevilla also present in the stands to monitor Mensah. Also, one is not sure if Atletico Madrid would be willing to even entertain offers for the player, let alone agree to sell the 21-year-old.
