Manchester United are reportedly prepared to offer £42m to Real Madrid in January in order to secure a deal for their star defender Sergio Ramos.
Italian publication calciomercato have claimed in their report that Manchester United are interested in a move to bring Sergio Ramos to the Premier League. The report added that the Red Devils are preparing a mammoth £42m bid in January to prize the player away from Real Madrid.
The 30-year-old is the current captain of Los Blancos and is viewed by the club hierarchy and manager Zinedine Zidane as a star player and leader for the Spanish giants. Jose Mourinho is reportedly unhappy with the defence despite the arrival of Eric Bailly from La Liga in the summer transfer window.
Despite a good start by the club under the Portuguese along with strong showing by the defensive pairing of Eric Bailly and Daley Blind, the latter’s weakness came to the fore as he played a major role in Manchester City’s first goal in the derby defeat of the Red Devils.
Mourinho has even tried Chris Smalling alongside Eric Bailly, but the English international seems to have not recovered yet from his injury, as he has failed to replicate even a fraction of his form from last year. Also, the lack of leadership on the pitch is a cause for concern with the fans and pundits pointing the very thing out from time to time.
Wayne Rooney, the current United captain has come under scrutiny for his performances and may be dropped in the near future and it will be better for the club to have a leader that will be a regular in the starting lineup.
Mourinho is reportedly seeking another addition to the defensive unit to partner Eric Bailly, who has been solid thus far for the Red Devils, which has seen the club already linked with other defenders like Atletico Madrid’s Jose Gimenez.
Although United want to approach Real Madrid for Sergio Ramos, a deal to bring the player to Old Trafford is likely to face complications. The major doubt is whether Sergio Ramos would be interested in a reunion with Mourinho, who managed the player during his three seasons at Real Madrid.
The two were reported to not see eye-to-eye during their time at the Santiago Bernabeu and have had altercations in the past, which may hinder United’s chances of securing the 30-year-old’s services.
There is no doubt that the Red Devils would be able to provide Sergio Ramos his desired financial package if he shows interest in moving to the club, but at this moment a deal looks as far away from being done as possible and is highly unlikely given the current circumstances.
