Arsenal’s Chilean superstar Alexis Sanchez has reportedly stated that he feels he’s at the same level as the likes of Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.
Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo have become global icons. Such is the stature of the two that not many footballers dare to liken themselves to the duo.
One could argue that Zlatan Ibrahimovic does consider himself as God, as he has referred to himself at times, but even he has admitted to being respectful and at times in awe of the two superstars.
However, one superstar doesn’t seem to be lacking in confidence, even though his claims might be somewhat far-fetched. The players is none other than Arsenal’s Chilean superstar Alexis Sanchez who has been quoted by Spanish publication Sport as saying he’s on par with Messi and Ronaldo.
Sanchez said,“ I have reached a level where I can compete with great players. I do not feel inferior to anybody. I liken [my qualities] to Messi and Ronaldo. I have the same abilities as them.”
Alexis Sanchez has been somewhat of a standout and has already edged out Lionel Messi and his Argentina side to the Copa America title twice in successive years. The heartbreaking loss on penalties in the Copa Centenario this term famously led to Messi questioning his future with the Albiceleste.
Only time will tell if Sanchez can have the same impact for Arsenal as Lionel Messi and Ronaldo have for their clubs Barcelona and Real Madrid respectively.
Even though fans all around the world may not exactly agree with the Chilean’s comments, the Gooners are sure to be elated at the fact that Sanchez is not lacking in confidence. This could in turn enhance his performances, something which might be necessary if Arsenal are to challenge for the title this season.
Arsene Wenger and the Arsenal faithful would be hoping Sanchez can emulate his off-field confidence on the pitch and guide Arsenal to a successful campaign to put an end to their long wait for the Premier League trophy which has eluded them for over a decade now.
