Sadio Mane injury worries unfounded as Liverpool winger is fit to play

Sadio Mane suffered what has now turned out to be a minor knock on International duty, and is fit to play as Liverpool prepare to host the defending champions Leicester City.

The Senegalese winger was withdrawn in the 66th minute of the African Cup of Nations qualifier between Senegal and Namibia which they went on to win 2-0. Mane was taken off after suffering a knock, and Liverpool fans were left sweating over his fitness ahead of a big game against Leicester City.

Manager Jurgen Klopp was also very concerned about the injury scare and had called Mane to his office in order to get an update, according to The Telegraph. The 24-year-old gave him a positive update and stated that he is ready to play in the match against the Foxes this weekend.

The report further adds that Mane was in training as usual at the Reds’ Melwood training ground on Monday morning.

Sadio Mane has been phenomenal for Liverpool since signing for Southampton for a reported £34 million this summer. The pacy attacker has cemented his place on the right wing for the Reds, and has been hugely impressive in his three competitive appearances for them so far.

The 24-year-old made his competitive debut in a high profile encounter against Arsenal, where he bagged a goal and proved a menace for the Gunners as they lost 4-3 to the Reds. He then bagged two assists and generally bossed the game as Liverpool trounce Burton Albion in their League Cup game.

Mane also impressed against Tottenham in their last outing before the international break, although the joint meanest defence of last season proved very difficult to break down.

It is perhaps a telling sign that the Reds have lost the only game where Mane wasn’t fit to play, a 2-0 loss to Burnley in their second Premier League game. The fact that he is fit for the game against the Foxes is a huge boost for Liverpool, as they look to beat the defending champions at Anfield just like they did last season.
