According to reports, Balotelli’s agent claims that the controversial striker snubbed a number of English clubs to join Ligue 1 outfit Nice.
The Italian striker believes that Nice is the ideal place for him to revive his career. He left Anfield on deadline day as for free after spending two miserable years with the Merseyside club.
Balotelli is 26 and at the prime time of his career, so it was important for him to choose the right club. His agent, Mino Raiola, believes he has made the right decision and also thinks that signing for Nice can pave a way back for him to the Italian national team.
Raiola was quoted saying,” Nice was a technical decision. We had alternatives in England, Spain, Germany and Italy, but Mario is happy. Football is too serious. In life there is no such thing as a final destination when you’re willing to get back in the game. There is great warmth here. It’s the perfect environment for Mario. We’ve chosen an ideal technical project for him.”
Nice have now got themselves a striker who impressed as a youngster at Inter under Jose Mourinho and helped City win the Premier League title in 2012. He then had a decent 18-month spell with AC Milan but his career took a turn for the worse when he joined Liverpool. He scored only four goals in 28 appearances at Anfield before being loaned back to Milan, where he was unable to reproduce his form of the previous two years.
Liverpool had been trying to get rid of Balotelli all summer and the striker and his agent deny the fact that there were lack of offers from elsewhere.
He believes that Nice will help him revive his career and he will be back to his usual goal scoring self. However, many believe that he is a risky signing.
It would be interesting to see how Balotelli’s future pans out from hereon. While he may be a risky signing for any club, the fact is that he has a lot of potential and a lot of years ahead of him.
