Transfer Rumour: AC Milian eyeing wantaway Liverpool winger Lazar Markovic

Italian giants AC Milan have emerged as shock suitors for Liverpool outcast Lazar Markovic.

According to James Pearce of the Liverpool Echo, winger Lazar Markovic has been deemed surplus at Anfield by manager Jurgen Klopp. The German does not see Markovic as a part of his first-team plans and will allow him to leave on loan this summer.

Thus, seeing an opening, Italian side AC Milan have reportedly shown an interest in the wantaway Liverpool player. With no European football on offer this season at Anfield, Markovic may fancy moving to Italy and clock regular playing minutes in the Serie A.

Since moving to Liverpool in 2014, Markovic has spent lengthy spells on the sidelines due to constant  injury worries. Signed by Brendan Rodgers as a potential wing-back, the Serbian marksman has failed to live up to his expectations.

In the 2014/15 campaign, the winger could only make 11 starts for the Reds as a gruesome injury picked up whilst on international duty kept him out of action for a number of months. After recuperating and returning to full fitness, the Serbian struggled to find his way back into the lineup and was then loaned out the next season to Turkish giants Fenerbahce.

In Turkey, it was more of the same for the 22-year-old. A persisting hamstring injury troubled him for the entirety of the 2015/16, and it aggravated to an extent which saw him being ruled out for the season.

His hamstring issues saw him miss his nation’s Euro 2016 qualifiers against Albania, which the Serbians succumbed to a shock defeat to send their opponents into their first ever European Championship finals.

Markovic may not be a good signing for Milan

Given Markovic’s injury worries, it may not be advisable for Milan manager Vincenzo Montella to table a bid for him. As they look to regain their status among Europe’s elite clubs, signing an injury-prone winger will do very little to help their cause.

For the Serbian, a possible hiatus could be on his cards as he looks to return to full fitness and put in the impressive performances he showcased during his days at Benfica.
