Tottenham approach Crystal Palace for former Manchester United winger Wilfried Zaha

Tottenham are looking to sign a winger to complete their set of acquisitions this summer. After facing difficulty in landing Georges-Kévin Nkoudou from Marseille, they have now turned their attentions to one of their domestic rivals’ star players.

Tottenham Hotspur have made some very astute signings in positions that need strengthening under manager Mauricio Pochettino, and are looking to follow that pattern in this transfer window as well. After signing a striker and a defensive midfielder, a winger is now the priority for Spurs.

The club were initially linked with a move for French youngster Georges-Kévin Nkoudou, who plays for Olympique Marseille in Ligue 1. Although the deal was widely reported as being on the verge of completion, it seems to be off now because of new ownership at the Ligue 1 club. This has now forced Spurs to consider other options, as transfer deadline day approaches.

Tottenham have now opened talks with Premier League rivals Crystal Palace over a possible transfer for former Manchester United winger Wilfried Zaha, according to Sky Sports. The report adds that the two clubs may agree on a possible fee of £15 million.

Wilfried Zaha was very highly rated by legendary former Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson. He was one of the last signings that the Scotsman made before retiring in 2013, joining the Red Devils in January of that year. However the 23-year-old then fell out of favour with his successor David Moyes, and was sent on two loan spells to Cardiff City and back to Crystal Palace before being sold to the latter in February 2015.

Zaha made 43 appearances in all competitions last season, scoring five goals and contributing seven assists, as Crystal Palace laboured to a 15th place finish in the Premier League and enjoyed a run to the FA Cup final.

The young Englishman would be Spurs’ third major signing of the summer, after Dutch striker Vincent Janssen and Kenyan midfielder Victor Wanyama. It remains to be seen if Palace will be willing to let Zaha go though, having already lost Yannick Bolasie to Everton.

However the Eagles have made two good signings in Andros Townsend from Newcastle United and Christian Benteke from Liverpool. Tottenham could well have another talented young English player on their hands if they pull off the deal, with Zaha joining the likes of Harry Kane, Dele Alli, Eric Dier and Danny Rose.
