Transfer Rumour: Manchester City to battle Manchester United for Fulham’s Ryan Sessegnon

Manchester City have reportedly joined the race alongside Manchester United for Fulham’s 16-year-old full-back Ryan Sessegnon.

Daily Mail have claimed that Manchester City are considering a move for 16-year-old defensive wonderkid Ryan Sessegnon. The report added that Manchester United, Arsenal, Liverpool and Tottenham have all made enquiries to Fulham for their youngster, but Manchester City have joined the race to sign the young starlet.

Ryan Sessegnon is an English-born left-back who is equally adept at playing in the midfield. The 16-year-old is currently plying his trade for Fulham in the Championship and has just made his first senior league appearance with Fulham this season.

Evening Standard have reported that Fulham are holding out for a fee much higher than the £3m valuation being discussed with interested clubs. The report added that the media and coaches have likened the full-back to Gareth Bale with both the players being coached by Huw Jennings. He is renowned for his work with youngsters, having produced players like Theo Walcott and Alex-Oxlade Chamberlain during the coach’s time at Southampton and Fulham respectively.

Arsenal were reported to have a bid rejected for the Fulham youth product earlier in the year, and are looking to follow up their interest since Manchester United, Liverpool and Tottenham are all interested in getting a hold of the 16-year-old.

The report by Mail also stated that Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola likes the player’s versatility and his ability to cover as a midfielder, with the Spaniard looking at Sessegnon after talks with Zagreb over a move for Ante Coric dragged out for too long.

Ryan Sessegnon qualifies as a home-grown player, which would also please the hierarchy at Manchester City as it would boost their quota of such players. Having impressed in his first senior league outing in the Championship, the youngster could be set for an upgrade to the Premier League if Manchester City or any of the other clubs decide to table a real offer that, according to Fulham is worth considering.
