Chelsea have reportedly offered Fabregas to Juventus after refusing to sell Serbian midfielder Nemanja Matic. The Old Lady are looking to reinforce their midfield after Paul Pogba departed for Manchester United. It is still unclear whether Juventus are interested in the former Arsenal captain.

Tuttosport report that Chelsea have offered to sacrifice Fabregas after refusing to sell Matic, who is regarded as instrumental for the team (via Football-Italia). Juventus will however have to dig deep inside their pockets if they are interested in acquiring the services of the Spanish midfielder. Apart from a high transfer fee, Fabregas will cost the Old Lady at least €7m in annual wages.

The Matic Situation

Juventus have a shortlist of players who are potential replacements for Pogba. The list included Zenit’s Axel Witsel, PSG’s Blaise Matuidi and Chelsea’s Nemenja Matic. It was largely believed in certain sections of the Italian press that Matic was pushing for a move to Juventus.

However, Chelsea and former Juventus boss Antonio Conte quashed all rumours of a potential switch for the Serbian – “Nemanja is an important player for me,” the former Juve Coach assured.

“He knows this. There isn’t a problem with him. Nemanja is a Chelsea player. I speak a lot with all of my players. Usually when you arrive at a new club it’s important to get to know all the players” (via Football-Italia).

The Alternate

Fabregas provides a very different set of attributes, despite being more of a traditional midfielder than his teammate Matic. The former is a better option on the creativity department, while the latter is more of a holding midfielder. It is important to note that neither of the players can be regarded as an exact replacement for Pogba who is a box-to-box midfielder.

Given recent performances of midfielder Oscar, Conte might look to deploy the Brazillian in the midfield alongside Kante and Matic which would mean that Fabregas will have to accept a bench/squad role in the team. Conte’s system has however, in the past, revolved around a central playmaker, a midfielder who is good at switching play from the sides and at ball distribution. It remains to be seen whether Chelsea and Conte are willing to part with the Spaniard and whether Juventus are looking to meet the player’s wage demands.
