Transfer News: Marcos Rojo has no intention of leaving Manchester United

Manchester United defender Marcos Rojo has insisted that he is determined to fight for his place in the starting lineup at Old Trafford this season.

There has been much speculation surrounding Marcos Rojo’s future at Old Trafford, with Jose Mourinho reportedly ready to offload the player as part of the summer clearout at Manchester United. However, Marcos Rojo is determined to stay with the Premier League giants and prove that he is worthy of a place in the first team, according to a Sky Sports report. The report states that the Argentine international believes he can still be an asset to the club and is ready to prove as much to new manager Jose Mourinho.

Marcos Rojo had a decent debut season as a United player after joining from Sporting CP, but failed to replicate that form last season. The 26-year-old has made a combined total of 38 Premier League appearances over the past two campaigns for the Red Devils, largely due to the absence of Luke Shaw as well as former boss Louis Van Gaal’s preference to play Daley Blind at centre-back rather than left-back (stats via whoscored).

Jose Mourinho now has a fit Luke Shaw at his disposal and with the Portugese stating that he prefers specialists in each position, Daley Blind is likely to be played more at left-back than at the centre of the defence. This has reportedly put Marcos Rojo further down in the pecking order.

The 26-year-old has been rumoured to be on the brink of an exit from Old Trafford, with Villareal reportedly interested in a move for the Argentine. However, Rojo’s insistence to stay at Old Trafford may turn out to be positive news for Mourinho, as the Portuguese would have extra cover for the left-back position.
