Transfer News: Wolfsburg clear speculation surrounding Arsenal target Julian Draxler’s future

Wolfsburg have come out with an official statement from their side after reports linking Julian Draxler with a move away from the club.

Wolfsburg ace Julian Draxler had, earlier today, revealed to German publication Bild that he had communicated his desire to leave the club after Germany’s exit from the recently concluded European Championships. He was linked with a move to Premier League side Arsenal. Wolfsburg have now come forward with their own official statement regarding the matter, reiterating that the Bundesliga side have no intention of letting the attacker leave this summer.

The statement was released after the hierarchy at Wolfsburg felt the need to comment on the speculation regarding Draxler’s future in response to the player’s interview to German publication Bild.

“VfL Wolfsburg wish to make it absolutely clear that at no time did those responsible at the club make either written nor oral commitments on the transfer of Julian Draxler within the current transfer period, which is due to end on August 31st, 2016. VfL Wolfsburg will not be selling Julian Draxler during the course of the current transfer period,” the statement said.

Wolfsburg touched upon the release clause in the German international’s contract, stating that it does not come into effect until the summer transfer window in 2017. It made it clear that the club would not grant the player’s wish to leave.

The club also said, “We now consider any possible uncertainties to have been eradicated and that all parties can revert back to a professional and responsible collaboration for the good of VfL Wolfsburg and, in particular, for our fans.”

Arsenal were favourites to land Julian Draxler this summer but the official statement is sure to put a dent in Arsene Wenger’s hopes of securing a move for the playmaker. The Gunners have seen many transfer failures in the past few weeks. They were rejected by players in favour of other clubs or in the case of Jamie Vardy, who chose to stay with Premier League champions Leicester City. It would be prudent to chalk this down as another failed attempt to secure a transfer. The Arsenal faithful are starting to grow impatient over their club’s inability to close transfer dealings in their favour.
