PSG’s Italian star Marco Verratti has denied rumours linking him with a move to Real Madrid this summer, saying that he would prefer to stay in the French capital for now.
Verratti has only made 18 appearances in the Ligue 1 last season, but feels that his future lies with the French champions for now. Incidentally, recurring injuries had kept the 23-year-old out of action for most of last season. In fact, he was ruled out of the 23-man Italian squad for the 2016 European Championships due to a groin injury, from which he is still suffering.
Over the course of the summer, various media reports have linked Verratti with a move away from PSG, with the likes of Manchester United and Barcelona being reportedly interested in signing the young midfielder.
The most recent reports have suggested that Real Madrid are interested in signing Verratti, after Los Blancos bowed out in the race to land Juventus star Paul Pogba’s signature. Even though Verratti confirmed that he has been approached by Real Madrid recently, he went on to say that his future lies with PSG.
“I have talked to the club a number of times and we are both keen to continue together and keep winning,” Verratti said to French newspaper Le Parisien.
The Pescara youth academy product further went on to indicate that he has some unfinished business at PSG. He said, “I have been in this city for four years and I am about to start my fifth season in Paris. PSG has become my new family and, above all, until we win the Champions League I cannot go.
“It’s very nice that an important club like Real Madrid is interested in me, but I have decided I want to win with PSG.”
Do Real Madrid really need another midfielder?
Zinedine Zidane has a number of quality players at his disposal. One look at Real Madrid’s star-studded lineup will make it certain that the quality that the France World Cup winner has in his midfield is ample. The likes of Luka Modric, Toni Kroos, Casemiro, James Rodriguez, Isco, Mateo Kovacic, and Marco Asensio are all accomplished players in their own right.
To add to that both James and Kovacic have recently revealed that they will not be on the move this summer, after being linked to a number of top clubs. Hence, it is highly unlikely that Los Blancos will sign another midfielder this summer, with so many quality players already present in their squad.
