Transfer News: AC Milan eye deal for Manchester United winger Adnan Januzaj

Serie A giants AC Milan are reportedly interested in signing out-of-favour Manchester United winger Adnan Januzaj on loan for the upcoming season.

Italian publication Gazzetta Dello Sport have reported that AC Milan are interested in bringing the Belgian youngster to Italy. The report states that the Rossoneri are willing to take the winger on a season-long loan with an option to make the move permanent during the season.

Fellow Italian media outlet calciomercato have reported that AC Milan manager Vincenzo Montella has communicated to the hierarchy that he does not wish to add another striker to the squad, with the likes of Gianluca Lapadula, M’Baye Niang and Luiz Adriano available at his disposal. Montella is on the lookout for a winger and is interested in the Manchester United outcast, as well as Chelsea’s Juan Cuadrado and Atalanta’s Alejandro Gomez.

Adnan Januzaj broke onto the footballing scene with a bang, scoring a brace against Sunderland on his league debut for Manchester United. The Belgian was awarded a lucrative new deal after an impressive breakthrough season under David Moyes, but subsequently found opportunities hard to come by under Louis van Gaal.

Januzaj has made only 29 league appearances over the last two years, including six substitute appearances during his loan spell at Dortmund. Dortmund manager Thomas Tuchel raised concerns about his willingness to train and play, a sentiment that echoed that of the Belgium Football Association, who were furious that the former Anderlecht youngster refused to play for the Belgium U21 side in crucial qualifying matches.

The arrival of new boss Jose Mourinho could have sparked Januzaj’s United career into life again, with the winger holding showdown talks with the Portuguese. The outcome has not been positive however, with Mourinho reportedly asking Januzaj to look for a new club.

The report by calciomercato also stated that new Sunderland manager David Moyes is interested in a reunion with the winger and believes that he can bring the Belgian back to his best. Stoke City have also been linked, but the allure of a historic club like AC Milan would likely be a major factor in the 21-year-old’s decision. Along with Sunderland and Stoke City, AC Milan are set to face competition from their arch-rivals and neighbours Inter Milan, who are reportedly interested in a move for Januzaj as well.

Vincenzo Montella wants to add a fresh face to the squad and Adnan Januzaj seems to fit the profile of the kind of player he is currently looking for in order to strengthen his team. The Italian would be hoping that the Rossoneri are able to fight off competition from Inter and other suitors as he looks to restore Milan to its former glory.
