Former Arsenal FC captain Mikel Arteta has hanged his playing boots and will be taking up a coaching role at Manchester City.
In Arsenal related news, veteran Mikel Arteta has chosen to part ways with the club. After spending 5 years at the Emirates, Arteta decided it was the right time to hang his playing boots, and take up a slightly mature role. He was heavily linked with the coaching job at Manchester City, and today via his Twitter account, the 34-year-old confirmed his role at the Etihad Stadium.
After make a colossal 259 appearances in England’s top-tier Spanish midfielder Mikel Arteta decided to retire from playing and embark on a different career path. The 34-year-old was named captain by Arsene Wenger, but could only play 24 matches over the course of two seasons, due to serious injury trouble, and will now taking up the job as a coach at the Etihad Stadium.
Arteta enjoyed a good five seasons at Arsenal, by winning two FA Cups and a Community Shield. He would now take that winning mentality to Manchester where he would join Pep Guardiola and help him rebuild the City side.
According to City’s official website, the 34-year-old said:
“Coaching has been something I’ve always been keen to go into and I’ve worked hard off the pitch as well as on it to develop my skills in order to put me in a position to be able to pursue a coaching role once I finished playing.”
“I’ve been lucky enough to work under some amazing coaches during my career and I hope to use the elements of everything I’ve learned from them as well as my own playing career to help City achieve success.”
“I am now looking forward to the challenge ahead at Manchester City. The opportunity to join Pep Guardiola and his team was an amazing opportunity for me and I am incredibly excited for the future,” he added.
