Barcelona attacker Neymar’s father has stated that the player will not move to Spanish rivals Real Madrid.
Barcelona golden boy Neymar’s future hangs in the balance. Top sides across the continent are keeping an eye on him, and the ones with heavy financial backing are set to make a move for the Brazilian attacker. Names like PSG, Manchester United and Real Madrid have been dropped time and again, but according to the player’s father, a move to Madrid is off the cards.
Sky Sports has reported (h/t Fox Sports Brasil) that when he was asked about his son’s chances of joining the Los Blancos, he said: “The possibility of him ending up there [Real Madrid] is zero. Neymar’s owners are Barcelona. Any proposals, any notifications, or any formality that comes in respect to Neymar, without question passes through Barcelona and Barcelona alone.”
“There’s lots of speculation and it’s clear he’s become mixed up in all that. People know that there are various clubs interested in him for his football, but they don’t want to say that he’s talking to them or having any dealings,” he added.
He also said that the player would not mind seeing out his contract at the Camp Nou, and suggested that he is happy at the club.
“People have said 10,000 different things about my son. Neymar has a contract at Barcelona, and he has two years left. That’s the only certainty. He has to obey that contract – besides, he’s happy at the club.”
“The speculation will go on, like it has been for a while, but everyone’s used it by now,” he added.
Barcelona are reportedly in talks with Neymar over an extension
According to the Daily Star, the 24-year-old will sign an extension with the Catalan club this summer. It also stated that a bumper £186 million release clause is going to be slapped on the player, making it virtually impossible for the majority of the top European sides to get their hands on him.
Spanish daily Mundo Deportivo, has reported that the backroom staff at the Camp Nou is more relaxed regarding the Brazilian’s future. Earlier, it had caused a bit of a hindrance as the player was unwilling to commit, but it has been understood that negotiations are going in full swing. The Barca negotiators are confident that Neymar will sign an extension that will keep him at the club until 2022.
