Ryan Giggs set to bid farewell to Manchester United?

Jose Mourinho has decided against naming Ryan Giggs as a part of his coaching staff as he believes that the former Manchester United winger would be a threat to his position at the club.

After an illustrious 28-year association with Manchester United, the time may have come for Ryan Giggs to bid farewell to the club. Portuguese coach Jose Mourinho has taken over the reigns at Old Trafford and has reportedly made his decision to let go of Giggs. According to the TimesMourinho sees the Welshman as a direct rival for his job, and believes that he would not provide the loyal support that he would expect from an assistant manager.

It also stated that Mourinho was of the opinion that Giggs had under-performed in his role as an assistant under Louis van Gaal and doubted whether the 42-year-old could be of any help to him. For the majority of van Gaal’s tenure, Giggs had appeared to be a speechless figure on the bench, offering little to no advice to the man in charge. United legend Paul Scholes , had also denounced the way football was played by the Red Devils under the Dutch manager. Van Gaal often came under the cosh in press conferences and was questioned about the criticisms made by Scholes.

What does the future hold for Ryan Giggs?

If Giggs is to stay at the club, the options seem very limited. The Independent stated that the 42-year-old is currently on a vacation in Dubai and is waiting for United’s chief-executive Ed Woodward to come up with an offer. If the board decides to include the Welshman as a part of their setup, it may be for a role with the youth team as Jose Mourinho is set to rope in long-time ally Rui Faria as his assistant.

That may not be bad news for Giggs, who could gain first-hand experience with the youngsters and could soon be ready for taking the leap into senior football. The likes of Pep Guardiola and Luis Enrique also came up the ranks to become one of the greatest pragmatists on the planet. By the look of things, it’s either the youth setup or goodbye for Ryan Giggs.

He could even consider a move to a lesser Premier League club which would give him much needed exposure, to make it to the bigger stage.
