If reports from England are to be believed, FC Barcelona are ready to enter into new negotiations for Neymar’s contract, dealing a blow to the likes of Manchester United and Real Madrid.

Over the last three years, Neymar has progressed to a become one of the best players in the world, trailing only behind Messi and Ronaldo. Anticipating this, Barcelona had put down a €190 million release clause in Neymar’s contract, which is set to run out in another three years’ time.

However, the completion of three years on his current contract has triggered a renegotiation clause, according to the Daily Mirror.

Although the €190 million release clause looks quite daunting on paper, Neymar has been linked with a move to several top European clubs like Manchester United, PSG and Real Madrid. Neymar’s camp have also been encouraging the rumours, in order to gain the upper hand in the contract negotiations with Barcelona.

Barcelona on the other hand, are looking to tie the player down to another long term deal, according to the report in Daily Mirror. While a number of financial setbacks prevented them from offering the Brazil captain an improved deal in the winter, Barcelona are now said to be prepared to meet Neymar’s demands.

Another reason why Barcelona are said to be interested in a re-negotiation is that they want to increase Neymar’s current release clause, as they are afraid that clubs like Manchester United, PSG, and Real Madrid will not be deterred by the €190 million figure, when it comes to acquiring a quality player like Neymar.

Is Neymar the heir to Messi’s throne?

Neymar was considered to be one of the best players in the world even before his move to Barcelona three years back. While Messi is still very much in his prime, Barcelona are likely to turn to Neymar in the future, to take up the responsibility in attack. Neymar had showcased his ability to carry forward the Barcelona attack, in the earlier parts of last season, when Messi was injured. It might be too early to draw  comparisons, but Neymar, who had scored 24 goals and provided 12 assists from 34 La Liga games last season, seems like someone who can fill in the void left by the Argentine ace once the latter is past his prime.
