Liverpool have rejected an initial bid of £23 million from PSG for their Brazilian star Philippe Coutinho
Paris-Saint Germain have reportedly made an offer for the Brazilian winger Philippe Coutinho. According to a report in the Metro, PSG have tabled a bid believed to be in the region of £23 million. The bid, however, was immediately rejected by Liverpool.
The 23-year-old Brazilian joined Liverpool from the Italian club Inter Milan in 2013. Since then, he has had a very positive impact on the Liverpool squad helping them almost win the title in 2014, which would have been their first in close to three decades. That campaign for Liverpool infamously ended in a second place as they succumbed to the pressures of the title race in the final few games. Having featured for Liverpool 43 times last season, scoring 12 goals and assisting 8 times, Coutinho’s presence in the squad always displayed a marked improvement in the attacking third for Liverpool.
It is estimated that Paris-Saint Germain will have to pay a significantly higher amount if they are to lure the Liverpool star to the French champions. It is interesting to note that PSG are always keen on making a minimum of one or two marquee signings every summer to make sure the club maintains a strong grip on the domestic front and at the same time try to achieve their aim of winning the Champions League.
Coutinho a vital asset for PSG in Europe
Paris Saint-Germain have won everything there is to win on the domestic front. However, the Champions League trophy continues to elude the Paris based team as they always manage to go deep in the tournament and then falter. Having reached the quarter-finals 4 times in a row and been eliminated each time, many fans who expected to PSG to win the Champions League have been disappointed by the extravagant team. Along with Angel Di Maria, the electric Brazilian can form a partnership that certainly holds a potential to frighten and terrorize defences not only in France but all across Europe.
Coutinho can provide a much needed balance to the PSG squad and that cutting edge which is required to go all the way to win the Champions League The 23-year-old loves to score goals from outside the box, can provide with excellent through-passes. Coutinho will also have an added motivation of playing in the UEFA Champions League at the peak of his career as Liverpool have failed to qualify for the Champions League for the second season in row.
