Zlatan to Manchester United: Deal for Swedish superstar held up by PSG loyalty bonus

After the prolonged wait for Jose Mourinho to officially be announced as the new Manchester United manager, the Red Devils’ fans are now in the same situation again with Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

The Swedish striker teased fans and the media by announcing that the 7th of June would be the day of a huge announcement. Manchester United fans were taken for a ride though, as it turned out that Zlatan was only releasing his new clothing line, with no word on his next destination.

The former PSG striker has constantly been linked with Manchester United since the arrival of new manager Jose Mourinho, but despite reports that a one-year deal has been agreed and that an official confirmation is forthcoming, there has been no word from either United or Zlatan himself.

However, there seems to be a big reason for this delay. According to the Independent, the official announcement of the deal is being postponed till next month so that Ibrahimovic and his agent Mino Raiola can receive a large loyalty bonus from the Swede’s former club PSG. His contract with PSG officially expires on June 30th, 2016, and it is believed that only after that will Manchester United announce that they have signed the 34-year-old striker.

While the entire footballing world has now been alerted to the fact that Zlatan Ibrahimovic is set to move to Old Trafford, the absence of an official club announcement has frustrated Manchester United fans to no end.

For his part, Zlatan appears to be thoroughly enjoying the growing suspense. He even dropped a tongue-in-cheek hint at the launch of his clothing line on Tuesday, saying that it would also be available in Manchester. The Swede was also one of the first to congratulate Jose Mourinho on his appointment as United manager on Twitter. It looks like the footballing world will have to wait till after the Euros to finally see Zlatan in a Manchester United shirt.
