With Pep Guardiola soon to takeover as manager at the club, Manchester City have begun to move fast, having completed a deal to secure Borussia Dortmund’s Ilkay Gundogan transfer to the Etihad.
Borussia Dortmund’s 25-year-old midfielder Ilkay Gundogan is Pep Guardiola’s first signing at Manchester City. The German midfielder will make his way to the Etihad in a deal worth £21 million. The midfielder has been nursing a dislocated knee-cap, ruling him out of the Euros and the beginning of the new Premier League season.
Having moved to Borussia Dortmund from Nuremburg in 2011, Gundogan has been an integral part of the Dortmund midfield. Since signing up for the Black and Yellow, Gundogan has featured in 157 games, netting 15 goals and setting up 21 others, and was a crucial part of the side’s run to the Champions League final in 2013. The midfielder will likely be a replacement to Ivory Coast’s Yaya Toure, who has been linked with a move away this summer.
City submit £39 million bid for Athletic Bilbao’s Aymeric Laporte
Pep Guardiola has defence at the top of his list of priorities and is an admirer of 22-year-old Aymeric Laporte. The Spaniard has reportedly pushed the club to ready a move for the defender. According to a Spanish Radio station Cadena SER, the Blues are ready to meet Athletic Bilbao’s £39 million release clause.
City have been linked with Laporte for a while now. But a broken leg suffered in early March forced the club to rethink their approach for the France U-21 defender, who is now set to miss the Euros and a good chunk of the beginning of next season. However, reports claim that City are set to go ahead with the their bid as they are ready to wait through the recovery period of the promising youngster. The club attempted to secure a £30 million deal, however Bilbao have refused to budge on their asking price for the defender.
Marquinhos edging closer to Premier League switch?
PSG’s Brazilian defender Marquinhos is reportedly edging closer to a switch from the Parc Des Princes to the Etihad. According to UOL Esporte, the highly-rated youngster could be enticed by a move to the Premier League and a big club like City should prove to be a bonus. Defence was the Achilles heel in City’s season, and having identified that from his initial prognosis, Guardiola is urging the club to step up their chase for the youngster.
With Kompany injured, Martin Demichelis set to leave and Jason Denayer preparing for another loan move, an option like Marquinhos, who can fill in at right-back apart his preferred centre-half role, would be a good one for the Citizens. However, with the likes of Manchester United, Chelsea and Barcelona weighing-in moves for the want-away defender, City will have to make a quick move if they are to secure his transfer to the club.
Serie A wonder-kid on Premier League radar
Bologna’s Amadou Diawara has had a breakthrough season for the Serie A club this season. Having registered 34 league appearances, his performances have caught the eye of Italian heavyweights Juventus, Napoli and Roma. However, Manchester City are looking to fight their way through to lure the 18-year-old to the Premier League, claim local newspaper Corriere Di Bologna.
Diawara joined Bologna from Calcio San Marino in a £600,000 deal last year. However, club owner Joey Saputo is apparently keen to make a significant profit if any deal is to be completed. The Guinean plies his trade in defensive midfield while also occupying the center-midfield spot as and when called upon and has been a solid rock in his position for Bologna.
