PSG latest club to be linked to Chelsea and Liverpool target Antonio Rudiger

Antonio Rudiger is one of the highly sought after Serie A players in Europe. After being linked with Chelsea and Liverpool, there is news of interest from France for the German defender.

Gazzetta dello Sport of Italy claims that Laurent Blanc is in pursuit of a defender this summer and the hard-tackling 23 year old is one of the names on his wishlist. Like his centre half partner in Rome, the Greek Kostas Manolas, Rudiger has left a trail of admirers in his wake this season after enjoying a very good second half under coach Luciano Spalletti.

Rudiger had shown a slow and steady development in his game as he was brought last summer from Stuttgart on loan with an option to buy. He struggled under coach Rudi Garcia, only to find his form under Spalletti like so many of his Roma teammates. He started 37 games this season which have earned him his fair share of transfer rumours to big European outfits like Chelsea.

Roma are expected to make the signing permanent in the coming months for a rumoured fee of around 9 million euros. Having just arrived and only been a season old, Rudiger’s departure is improbable but not impossible. If the right offer comes, Roma would find it difficult to refuse.

Rudiger had recently indicated that he was happy at Roma. “It was good [the 2015/16 campaign],” he told German media outlet Funke Sport. “Unfortunately we were unable to achieve second place and direct qualification for the Champions League, but overall it was a positive season. There was criticism at first, but I do not care.” (via Gazzetta World)

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp is seemingly after a whole host of German stars and international stars based in the Bundesliga this season. Although at the moment there is nothing concrete, Liverpool remain interested in the centre back’s services.

With PSG defender Marquinhos (who is also a former Roma player) receiving some amount of attention from Manchester United and Barcelona, PSG are reportedly keen on an insurance policy in case an offer comes for Marquinhos.
