Arsenal FC manager Arsene Wenger promises to sign three more players this summer

Arsenal FC manager Arsene Wenger said he wants to bring in three new players in the summer transfer window.

The Gunners surrendered their chase for the Premier League title mid season, and only managed to climb back to the second spot in the table after their arch rivals Tottenham Hotspur slipped up in the last couple of games of the season.

This has led many fans to believe that the club needs to invest more money on quality players in the summer. The Gunners have made a strong statement by announcing the signing for Swiss midfield general Granit Xhaka as early as May, as their first signing for the next season.

However, Wenger indicated that he largely wants to keep the same crop of players in at the Emirates.

“We want to keep the group stable over the summer while strengthening where possible,” Wenger was quoted as saying in Red London. “You want the group to be stimulated and to believe that we have improved the quality.”

However, the Arsenal manager also stated that he is looking to make a few key signings, who will add to the strength of the squad in general.

“I must say, we want to combine technical stability with players that we know want to play and know our game. Maybe bring in three players for example. That’s the right level for me,” continued the Arsenal boss.

Gunners need to improve two more departments

The signing of Granit Xhaka has really improved the Arsenal midfield. Not only do they have a tough tackling midfielder now, but they also have someone who can lead the team from the middle of the pitch. With the likes of Xhaka, Ozil, Ramsey, Cazorla, and Wilshere, the Arsenal midfield looks formidable indeed.

However, it is the defence and the attack that the Gunners need to improve upon. Per Mertesacker looks like age is catching up with him, and Gabriel Paulista is too rash to be considered as a regular in the starting XI. Wenger needs to find a good defensive partner for Laurent Koscielny.

Similarly, Arsenal’s forward line looks like it could do with some reinforcements. With Danny Welbeck out injured for nine months, Olivier Giroud is the only recognised striker in the squad. The addition of another top quality striker could help build the Gunners into a formidable unit.
