German star Mesut Ozil has postponed contract talks with Arsenal FC for a second time, raising more doubts about his future at the Emirates, according to reports in the English media.
Ozil has told the club that he will only start thinking about a new deal at Arsenal once Germany’s campaign in the Euro 2016 in France is over, according to a report in The Times.
The Arsenal playmaker has reportedly been one unhappy at the fact that the Gunners were not able to properly challenge for the Premier League title after winter, with various reports claiming that Ozil wants to move to a club where he can win more trophies.
Ozil has two years left on his current contract with Arsenal, and the Gunners will be looking to extend the current deal, or else risk their star midfielder leaving the club at a cut-price rate.
However, certain reports in the British media claim that Ozil is not looking for a move away from the English captial. Ozil is said to be a great admirer of Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger, and wants to play under the Frenchman. A Daily Mirror report suggests that the German already has a verbal agreement in place with the club. It is merely a matter of putting pen on paper, which is set to happen after the Euro 2016.
Ozil is currently the highest earner at Arsenal, bagging £140,000 per week on his current contract. However, Wenger is so desperate to keep his talisman playmaker that he is reportedly prepared to shoot Ozil’s wages up to £200,000 per week.
Ozil needs a good striker to feed passes to
The 27 year old had a brilliant season at Arsenal, scoring six goals and incredibly providing 19 assists to his teammates. In fact, Ozil has played a total of 146 key passes this Premier League campaign, and an incredible rate of 4.2 key passes per match.
However, Arsenal have not been so lucky as to convert all (or most of) the chances that Ozil created every game. In fact, their main striker Olivier Giroud had a poor shot conversion rate of 54 per cent. Even with that conversion rate, Giroud was able to bag 16 goals in the Premier League this season. Getting a top class striker like Robert Lewandowski (60 per cent) or Karim Benzema (61 per cent) could be even more beneficial for the team.
