Manchester United legend Ryan Giggs has been offered a new contract that keeps him at the club as a member of the backroom staff, if reports from the English media are to be believed.
Giggs, who holds the record for having the most number of appearances for Manchester United, was serving as the assistant manager at Manchester United for the last three seasons. The Welshman started off as the assistant manager under David Moyes, in the 2013/14 season. However, Moyes was sacked that very campaign, and Giggs was made the interim manager for the last four matches of the season.
When Louis van Gaal took over as the manager of the club, he offered Giggs the assistant manager’s role. The 42 year old has been serving as the assistant manager ever since.
But, with the sacking of Van Gaal on Monday, most of the Dutchman’s staff are also said to have been fired. However, according to Manchester Evening News, the former winger has been offered a chance to stay at Old Trafford.
As of yet, it is unclear what kind of role Manchester United want to involve Giggs in for this new deal, but it has largely been speculated that the 42 year old will act as an assistant manager to Jose Mourinho, who is the favourite to be announced as Manchester United’s new manager.
There are also rumours that Manchester United have offered Giggs the full time managerial job, but that seems unlikely, according to some British journalists.
#mufc‘s paid-up ambassadors who championed Giggs’ managerial credentials might be feeling ever so slightly daft today.

Giggs should try his hand elsewhere
While Ryan Giggs is a much loved figure at the Old Trafford, he needs to leave Manchester United for some while at least, to gain some experience as a full time Premier League manager.
He is getting to learn the tricks of the trade as an apprentice to the big managers of the current era. But after three years of being an assistant. Giggs can learn much more from being a manager at another club where the stakes are lower, and then gain enough experience to one day take over at Manchester United.
The career trajectory of current Italy head coach and incoming Chelsea boss Antonio Conte is worth studying in this regard. It was only after being successful at lower clubs like Bari, Atalanta and Siena that Conte caught the eye of a big team like Juventus, where he had played for 13 years.
