Liverpool FC V Sevilla Team Update: Origi doubtful for Europa League final

Liverpool are hoping Divock Origi has recovered fully from an ankle injury so manager Jurgen Klopp can select him for the Europa League final.

The Belgian striker, who burst into the scene last month, scoring five goals and providing one assist in seven matches in all competitions, has been suffering from an ankle issue lately. However, it has been recently learnt that the 21 year old does not need surgery on the damaged ligaments in his ankle, according to Liverpool Offside.

However, manager Jurgen Klopp said that he will only take a call on Origi’s availability for the match after a late fitness test. “We will see. We had another session and he did well in the last two sessions,” Klopp was quoted as saying on Liverpool’s official website. “The training after the press conference, you can watch it – unfortunately, so that means we can do nothing – and we will see how it feels and make a decision about this.”

Sevilla to miss Krohn-Dehli, Reyes

Sevilla CF vs EibarThe Andalusian club have a couple of key absentees in midfield going into the crucial European final on Wednesday. Michael Krohn-Dehli has been ruled out after suffering a knee injury in the semi final against Shaktar Donetsk, according to Evening Standard.

Former Arsenal star Jose Antonio Reyes also misses out in the final, as he had to undergo an appendix surgery last month.

The cup specialists

Both Liverpool and Sevilla have shown that they are good cup sides this season. The Reds have show great improvement ever since Jurgen Klopp took over at the club. However, they have largely been unable to replicate the same form in their league matches. Just like Sevilla, Liverpool have also played well in the big matches, winning easily against the likes of Manchester United, Manchester City, and Everton.

Similarly, Sevilla have also defeated the likes of Real Madrid and Barcelona, only to lose to the lower teams in the league, which ultimately brought down their position in the La Liga to seventh. Both the sides have also made it to their respective domestic cup finals (League Cup for Liverpool and Copa Del Rey for Sevilla), apart from making it to the Europa League final as well.

The big match mentality of both the clubs is what has carried them so far into the cup competitions. It will be interesting to see which of them can hold their nerves in the Europa League final.
