Chelsea FC want suspended John Terry to lead team out against Leicester

Chelsea have asked the Premier League to allow outward bound captain John Terry to lead the team out onto the pitch at Stamford Bridge, even though the centreback is suspended, if reports from the English media are to be believed.

Recent reports suggest that Terry has been offered a new contract by Chelsea. The Blues captain confirmed this on his official Instagram account.

However, he also revealed that the club have a slightly different role in mind for him, sparking more doubts about his future at Stamford Bridge.

However, according to reputed Times reporter Matt Hughes, Chelsea have asked the Premier League if Terry can lead the team out of the tunnel against Leicester City at Stamford Bridge, in spite of the fact that he is suspended in this match.

The Chelsea captain picked up a two-game suspension after seeing a second yellow card against Sunderland last week. He served out the first game of this suspension in the midweek match against Liverpool. However, he is still to serve out one more game of this suspension.

Terry’s contract saga has been going on for quite some time now, with the Chelsea captain announcing earlier this season that he might be leaving the club at the end of the campaign.

Although he is said to be courting lucrative offers from the Chinese Super League, Qatar, Major League Soccer in the US, and FC Midtjylland, Terry has maintained throughout that he wants to stay back a Chelsea, the club where he has spent over two decades.

Terry to be Chelsea’s Ryan Giggs?

A number of reports have speculated that Terry will have to take a massive pay cut in the new deal. It has also been reported that Terry will not be a first team regular under incoming manager Antonio Conte anymore.

However, a coaching role also cannot be ruled out for Terry under Antonio Conte. The Italian manager has already had some disagreement with the Chelsea board regarding the hiring of his support staff. This may be the perfect opportunity for Conte to retain Terry at Chelsea, not just as a player, but also as a coach.

The club might be looking for someone to carry it’s identity forward after the departure of most of their old guard. It will be interesting to see whether Chelsea make Terry their own Ryan Giggs.
