Harry Kane claims Chelsea FC celebrated like they ‘won the league’ following dramatic Stamford Bridge draw

Harry Kane has expressed his disbelief that Chelsea celebrated a draw as if they had won the league.

The Monday night fixture between Chelsea and Tottenham ended up being a hotly contested affair, with a number of brawls breaking out on the pitch. While the match was more or less inconsequential to Chelsea’s standing in the Premier League, Spurs needed to get three points in order to keep their title hopes alive.

They were on course to do just that, taking a 2-0 lead before half time. However, Chelsea came back into the game to dramatically level it 2-2 late in the match, which was marred by 12 yellow cards.

Kane, who is currently the highest scorer in the league with 25 goals, suggested that Chelsea were a bit too eager to celebrate a 2-2 draw over Spurs.

“When the ex-champions are celebrating like they won the league at the end, it shows that we’re doing something right,” Kane said to BBC [via ESPN]. “We’ve just got to keep doing what we’re doing, we’ve got a great bunch of lads, a great manager, great staff and we’ve just got to keep that and keep moving forward.”

However, the Tottenham striker went on to congratulate Leicester City on their monumental achievement of winning the Premier League, ahead of all the big clubs like Chelsea, Manchester City, Manchester United, and of course, Tottenham themselves.

“We’re gutted. We’ve had a great season. Credit to Leicester. Well done to them for winning the league. They’ve been fantastic this season,” said Kane. “We done all we could, we fought until the end, but it’s something we’ve got to learn from.”

Derby-day Blues?

While Chelsea’s celebrations for a draw against Tottenham seems like a bit of an overreaction by the players, one must understand where this is coming from. The Blues have had a long and hard season where they have had practically nothing to look forward to. A trophyless season is a separate issue. But Chelsea have not even been able to clinch a European spot either, which is a long way below their own lofty standards.

To add to that, they were playing a London Derby against Tottenham (which is always a hotly contested affair, both on the pitch and off it). Coming back from 2-0 down to draw 2-2 would have taken a lot of effort from , and that is perhaps something that got the Blues so cheerful after the match.
