Chelsea goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois could be on the move this summer as incoming manager Antonio Conte has reportedly agreed to sell the Belgian if they get a suitable offer.
Courtois has been growing discontent at Chelsea over the course of the season and wants a move away form London, if reports are to be believed. The 23 year old Belgian had refused to commit his long term future to Chelsea earlier this year, sparking off rumours of an exit.
Chelsea had sent Courtois to Atletico Madrid on loan in 2011, where he spent a total of three seasons. In those three years, he won the La Liga and reached the final of the Champions League with Atletico. He even won the UEFA Super Cup with the Rojiblancos in 2012, defeating Chelsea 4-1 in the one-off match.
Reports suggest the Belgian is not happy with his life in London, and wants a move back to the Spanish capital. Real Madrid are said to be the front runners in the race to land Courtois, with French champions PSG also interested.
According to a report in the Daily Mirror, Courtois has fallen out with Chelsea goalkeeper coach Christophe Lollichon, which has increased his discontent towards the club.
Italy national team head coach Antonio Conte, who is set to take over as the manager of Chelsea from the start of the 2016/17 season, has reportedly given the go-ahead to sell the player, if the club gets a reasonable offer.
What would be a reasonable price for Courtois?
Chelsea had set a release clause of £73 million for Courtois, after the Belgian’s brilliant performance last season. However, he has been in poor form this campaign, and rival clubs are unlikely to match that amount for the player. To top that off, Chelsea cannot offer their players Champions League football next season, which could further push down Courtois’s price.
The Belgian international is currently rated at around £28 million by Transfermarkt. However, it is highly unlikely that Chelsea will let a goalkeeper of his caliber go at such a low price. A bid around the region of £45-50 million could persuade Chelsea to sell him.
