Transfer News: Chelsea set to swoop in for Bayern Munich midfielder Arturo Vidal

According to the Daily Mail, Chelsea are all set to stun Bayern Munich with a transfer offer for star midfielder Arturo Vidal.

Newly appointed Chelsea boss, Antonio Conte, has already worked with the Bayern Munich midfielder at Juventus, and Vidal has reportedly stated both publicly and privately that he wants a reunion with the current Italy manager.

However, it is not only Vidal who heaped praise on Conte. The Italian is well known for making his team work hard, and the former Juventus manager also hailed Vidal as a warrior, hinting at the possibility of a move.

“If I ever go to war I’d take Vidal with me,” stated Conte.

Vidal responded last month and said, “I have also said if I go to war I would take Conte with me. We will see what happens.”

According to the Daily Mail, Bayern Munich are bracing themselves for a hard battle against Chelsea this summer to keep hold of the Chilean International. The Chilean international starred in Bayern’s narrow 1-0 win over Benfica and scored the only goal of the match, while also helping out in defence for Pep Guardiola’s side.

Guardiola was also appreciative of Vidal’s performance and admitted that the former Juventus man is an admirable man on the pitch.

“There are no doubts over Vidal’s quality,” Pep said after Vidal’s header turned made the difference in the match between Bayern Munich and Benfica.

Will Vidal move to Chelsea?

It is highly unlikely for Bayern Munich to let go of Arturo Vidal, as the Chilean international still has three years left on his contract. If Chelsea are to entangle themselves in a transfer battle, a fee of over 40 million pounds would be required to lure the Bavarian team. Even then, it is unlikely for Bayern to let go of their star player as Vidal is proving his worth for the German champions. The Chilean international has played over 1763 minutes for the German giants, scoring twice and assisting four times, while proving to be crucial in the Bayern midfield.

However, if indeed Vidal moves to Chelsea, Conte is likely to pair him up with Nemanja Matic in the middle of the park, with Vidal playing a box-to-box role with attacking freedom, while Matic can sit deep and dictate the tempo of the game. The box-to-box abilities of Vidal would thus enable Chelsea to commit bodies in attack as well as in defence. The Chilean international also excels in reading the opposition and that is always a useful weapon to have in one’s arsenal.
