Arsenal star Alexis Sanchez revealed in an interview that his form has dipped in the recent matches because he has been harbouring fears that his hamstring injury might resurface.
The Chilean was in tremendous form in the first half of the season, before he suffered a hamstring injury. This injury kept him out of action for three months. The 27-year-old said he fears that he may injure his hamstring again, if he exerts himself too much.
“Before my injury I was 100 per cent fit. I was feeling well. After the injury I wanted to get back but it was hard,” Sanchez was quoted as saying by the Premier League World [via Daily Mirror].
“I had a setback and when I played a match, I was scared I would get injured again because the thing I like most in the world is playing football and when I can’t play, I feel sad.
“Football is my passion, my life and I always want to win,” continued Sanchez “I think I have adapted well to the club but I am never satisfied with what I do. I want to win the Premier League, the Champions League. I always want to win everything.”
Has Sanchez lost his magic touch?
Sanchez has been one of the best players for Arsenal over the last couple of seasons. However, his goalscoring record was considerably better last season. While he scored at a rate of 0.45 goals per game in 2014/15, the Chilean has been netting at the rate of 0.34 this season. However, this may not really be an indication of Sanchez losing his magic touch.
As the player himself says, he has been worried about a recurrence of his injury, and that has stopped him from playing with full force and conviction in the recent matches. Nevertheless, his performance against Watford last weekend proved that Sanchez can still churn out match winning performances, as he scored one and set another up in Arsenal’s 4-0 victory over Watford.
