Louis van Gaal has hit back at former Manchester United player Angel Di Maria, saying that the current PSG winger does not evaluate his own mistakes and that he always has a tendency to blame the manager.
Di Maria had, in an earlier interview with the BBC, said that he left Manchester United because he wanted to win titles. He said, “It’s not nice to say certain things, but it’s more that they didn’t let me settle properly than I couldn’t settle. I left and that team are still playing the same way. Out of the European competitions, far from being champions of the Premier League.”
The former Real Madrid and Manchester United player also criticised Val Gaal for often playing him in different positions, which according to him, hampered his game.
However, when informed about Di Maria’s comments by the British press, Val Gaal hit back at his former player, saying that the current PSG man never wanted to evaluate his own performances, and always pinned the blame on the manager.
“I have never seen [many] players who look at themselves, who look to the way they have performed. It is always the fault of the manager,” Van Gaal was quoted saying in The Guardian.
“So he is one of the players who are in a row of players who have no self-criticism. Unfortunately it is my life as a manager. It is always like that,” he further said.
Van Gaal inching back towards top four?
After a couple of draws against difficult oppositions like West Ham and Liverpool, Manchester United have again given themselves a chance of qualifying for the Champions League by beating arch rivals Manchester City in their last Premier League match.
That win took them to within a point of the top four spots on the table. However, they have another crucial game against Everton on Sunday, which they must win to keep the pressure on the Sky Blues, who strolled past Bournemouth with a 4-0 win on Saturday.
Everton have been inconsistent this season, but they have shown that they have the quality to take on top opposition, and with the presence of the league’s third highest scorer Romelu Lukaku (18 goals) in their team, they can hurt Manchester United’s European ambitions.
