Gennaro Gattuso stated in a recent interview that he dreamt of managing Manchester United, and would even walk to Manchester to accomplish his dream.

The former AC Milan midfielder, who won two Champions League titles with the Serie A outfit, as well as the World Cup with Italy, is currently managing Italian third-tier side Pisa.

“I’d walk there. I’d even go tomorrow,” Gattuso told the Sun, when asked what he would do if he was offered the managerial role at Old Trafford.

The former AC Milan player also revealed that he would have loved to play under legendary Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson, and that he is a huge fan of the Premier League.

“Ferguson has always respected me — and I have always admired the Premier League which, for me, is the best league in the world,” he said.

“In Italy, we are tactical masters, but in England you see pacey players — with great strength in their legs.”

The Premier League experience

Gattuso has helped foil English sides Manchester United and Liverpool on a number of occasions. He was part of the AC Milan team that knocked the Red Devils out of the Champions League twice, as well as the one that beat Liverpool in the 2007 Champions League final.

However, Gattuso has been on the losing side as well. He was in the AC Milan side that lost to Liverpool in the 2005 Champions League final, and also suffered defeat in 2011, when the Rossoneri were knocked out by Tottenham Hotspur.

A controversial player and manager

Gattuso’s trophy laden career was also one that was mired in controversies. The Italian often clashed with his opponents, as was evident in a 2003 Champions League game against Ajax when he slapped striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic on the pitch before receiving his marching orders.

He has carried on in the same vein as a manager as well, as he made headlines on one occasion for slamming the press in an expletive-laden tirade during his time as manager of Greek side OFI Crete.

Gattuso was appointed manager of Italian third-tier side Pisa in 2015. His resume may not find a lot of fans at Old Trafford though — perhaps with the exception of fellow firebrand Roy Keane.
