Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal played out a thrilling 2-2 draw at White Hart Lane in one of the most consequential North London derbies in recent memory. While Harry Kane once again starred for the home side, Coquelin’s red card left the visitors with ten men on the pitch.
A draw was not the result either side particularly wanted, with Leicester City capitalising on the opportunity to extend their lead at the top of the Premier League table later in the day.
However, the North London derby yet again proved to be a thrilling affair for neutrals, complete with goals, a red card and plenty of moments of controversy. Spurs striker Harry Kane proved to be the difference maker on Saturday, earning a foul that resulted in Francis Coquelin’s red card, and scoring one of the goals of the season a few minutes later to give the home side a 2-1 lead.
Although Arsenal fought back admirably and earned a point courtesy of Alexis Sánchez’s first Premier League goal since October, the Gunners’ supporters were understandably infuriated with Coquelin’s silly tackle at the start of the second half. Meanwhile, Spurs fans and neutrals alike took to social media to extol Kane’s wonder goal.
Here are the best reactions from the game:
Harry Kane’s goal for #COYS was one of the greatest I’ve commentated on. From 2-1 down, in a cauldron, kudos to #Arsenal to reply. gr8 game.

That goal from Kane….astonishing strike. He always said that loan spell at Orient was an education…definitely didn’t learn that mind

Can’t fault the effort or fight today, especially after the sending off. Can fault Coquelin’s brain. #afc #NLD

Coquelin, Coquelout. In out in out, shake it all about. Stupid red card niggle and you turn around, that’s what it’s all about.

Given the circumstances, I’ll take a draw. Coquelin cost us with two needless fouls but great character to respond and secure a point.

Now explain yourself Coquelin…..? We got lucky to grab a point…. You owe the lads an explanation on where your head was.

Coquelin is very lucky he doesn’t have a Twitter account.

I would honestly fine Coquelin his wage for the rest of the season.
