Dortmund hold Bayern Munich to goalless draw, Kimmich and Burki praised for defensive contribution [Best Tweets]

Borussia Dortmund were unable to capitalise on the opportunity to reduce the gap between themselves and Bundesliga leaders Bayern Munich to two points, with Thomas Tuchel’s men being held to a 0-0 draw on Saturday.

Bayern Munich’s shock loss to Mainz in the last round of the Bundesliga fixtures gave Borussia Dortmund a golden opportunity to throw the title race wide open once again. But Pep Guardiola’s side put in a very solid performance to ensure that their five-point lead was maintained.

Although Der Klassiker did not prove to be a goal fest, it was a thoroughly entertaining affair, with chances falling to both sides. Dortmund’s Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang in particular was guilty of missing a couple of very good chances for the home side, while keeper Roman Burki pulled off an impressive stop to deny Bayern Munich midfielder Arturo Vidal in the second half.

The Dortmund keeper did not convince everyone with his display on Saturday, but fans on social media were full of praise for his finger-tip save from Vidal’s volley.

Meanwhile, Bayern Munich’s young makeshift centre-half Joshua Kimmich also received a lot of praise for his mature display at Signal Iduna Park. The conversation between Bayern boss Pep Guardiola and the 21-year-old after the full-time whistle dominated all talk after the game. However, the manager cleared the air in his post-match comments as he praised Kimmich for his passion and talent.
