Manchester City captain Vincent Kompany fires warning to rivals, says hunting season has begun

Veteran defender Vincent Kompany has called upon his Manchester City teammates to stay sharp and focused in order to hunt down their opposition in the business end of the Premier League season.

Manchester City laid claim to their first piece of silverware this season on Sunday, winning the Capital One Cup final on penalties against Liverpool. The Citizens will now have to focus on their tough domestic and European campaigns.

City captain Vincent Kompany recently looked to fire a warning to the club’s rivals, stating that the Citizens would not hold back as the season reaches its decisive stages.

“It’s an awkward time of the year – it’s almost as if we have nothing to lose any more. We still have a lot to play for but nothing to lose any more. It’s like all the gates come off,” said Kompany, according to fourfourtwo.com.

The Belgian defender added that it was time for Manchester City to gear up for what he termed as ‘hunting season’.

“It’s a weird feeling but it’s hunting season so it’s better to be chasing than to be chased in some ways… The whole organisation, everyone at the club, has to have the knife between their teeth and know that everyone needs to be as sharp and focused as ever.”

Kompany return could boost City’s ambitions

Manchester City’s UEFA Champions League round of 16 draw has been kind to them this year. They battered Ukrainian side Dynamo Kyiv 3-1 in the away leg, and are widely expected to qualify for the quarter-finals for the first time in the club’s history.

Their Premier League challenge is a bit more problematic, as they are 10 points adrift of leaders Leicester City with two games in hand.

However, they will take comfort from the fact that their captain Vincent Kompany managed to finish the League Cup final against Liverpool. The Belgian defender had been out of action with a calf injury since November.

Manchester City are a different side with Kompany in the centre of their defence. They have conceded 4 goals in the 10 games that he has featured in, and 24 in the 16 matches he has been out injured.
