Tottenham Hotspur dealt a significant blow to Manchester City’s title chances with a 2-1 win over the Citizens, but Arsenal FC legend Thierry Henry feels that Kelechi Iheanacho’s goal celebration could shed light on the dressing room atmosphere.
Iheanacho had cancelled out Harry Kane’s second half penalty with a 74th minute strike, and tore away towards one of the corner flags to celebrate. However, Henry points out that not many of his teammates were keen on celebrating the equalising goal in such a crucial match with the young striker.
“I know you have to go and get the ball back [to ensure a quick restart with the score level at 1-1 at the time] but no one went to celebrate with Iheanacho,” Henry was quoted as saying by Sky Sports. [via Goal.com]
“That’s something that, I don’t know… you scored a goal, go and celebrate with the guy. ‘Let’s go, get the ball back’. No one went to celebrate with him. He was in the corner there,” Henry further went on to say. “I think Vincent Kompany went with him and someone else but that’s it. Maybe I’m reading too much between the lines about that Man City team, but no one went to celebrate with him, that’s a bit weird.”
Has Pellegrini lost the dressing room?
Manuel Pellegrini is one of the most respected managers around in the Premier League. The cool and calm demeanour in which he conducts himself is something that many have looked up to. Thus, it came as a huge surprise when it was announced that the Chilean would be replaced by current Bayern Munich boss Pep Guardiola at the start of the 2016/17 season.
However, if what Henry has inferred is true, it might just be the case that Pellegrini might indeed have lost the dressing room, and that there may be a big divide between the Manchester City players. It would be interesting to see how the team shapes up, as the title chase has started to look a bit too difficult for Manchester City.
