Chelsea FC fans take to Twitter to hail masked hero Diego Costa and history-making Bertrand Traoré after Newcastle mauling

Chelsea FC striker Diego Costa scored his tenth goal with the opener against Newcastle on Saturday, before setting up team-mate Willian with a delightful through ball for the Blues’ third.

Chelsea prepared for the tough midweek Champions League fixture away to Paris Saint-Germain in the best way possible, demolishing Newcastle United 5-1 in front of a raucous Stamford Bridge crowd. Spain international Pedro scored a brilliant brace, but it was Diego Costa who opened the scoring in the fifth minute and laid the foundations for the rout.

Unsurprisingly, Blues supporters were delighted with the former Atlético Madrid striker’s performance, taking to Twitter to heap praise on the 27-year-old. Manager Guus Hiddink later revealed that Costa was desperate to play despite his broken nose, because of which the Chelsea hitman was sporting a protective face-mask on Saturday.

Meanwhile, Chelsea fans were also delighted with youngster Bertrand Traoré’s first ever Premier League goal. Incidentally, with the strike, he became the first player from Burkina Faso to feature on a Premier League scoresheet.
