Louis Van Gaal Trusts Manchester United Management, Says Mourinho Is His Friend

With all the speculation surrounding the imminent arrival of the Special One at Old Trafford, Manchester United manager has made a very frank statement about the prospect of being replaced by Jose Moutinho.

Jose Mourinho’s unceremonious sacking from Chelsea FC has led to speculations about a prospective move to Manchester United, who are currently falling short of expectations under Dutch manager Louis van Gaal. However, the rumours seem to have reached a fever pitch in recent times, and Van Gaal has come out to have his say on the matter, claiming that Mourinho was his friend.

“I have not said that we have spoken, but he [Mourinho] is my friend, so there you go,” Van Gaal said. [via:fourfourtwo.com]

“But I don’t know if Manchester United have spoken with Mourinho or not.”

“I can only say that I have spoken with Ed Woodward and I cannot imagine that they have spoken with each other. I think that if they speak with another manager, they would tell me because our relationship is like that… And I believe they will tell me if it is like that. I not only have a strong relationship with Ed, but also with the Glazers.”

Van Gaal also expressed his frustration at being reported as having been sacked by the media thrice already, and said that now the speculation was about Mourinho, but next time it could just as well be some other manager.

Van Gaal not set to leave anytime soon

The Dutch manager has come under fire a lot this season for his team’s faltering performances, and the media have been having a go at the 62-year old relentlessly. However, the latest public announcement of his faith in the management by the proud Dutchman does seem genuine. The recent results that Manchester United have been churning out have also been decent enough to give him some breathing space. Van Gaal has consistently been bothered by rumours of his departure and has kept brushing them off. It remains to be seen if his latest attempt at doing so is able to slow if not stop the rumour wagon.
