Chelsea FC Set To Sign Gonzalo Higuain In The Summer, After Failed January Move

The striker shortage at Stamford Bridge has been a cause for worry for the management and fans this season. It looks like they are looking to the Serie A for an answer, as  prolific Argentine striker Gonzalo Higuain is being targeted.

Higuain has come into his own this season, having played a huge role in Napoli’s campaign. The Partenopei currently find themselves at the top of the Serie A table and are aiming for the Scudetto for the first time since 1990. The 28-year-old striker has been the chief protagonist of their rise to the top, with 28 goals for them this season in all competitions.

Failed winter move

As per reports in The Mirror, the Argentine has been a long term target for Chelsea FC for quite some time now. The Blues even launched a move to sign him during the winter transfer window. However, the conditions of the deal did not suit the current Neapolitan, as the Blues made it quite clear that Diego Costa would remain first choice striker at Stamford Bridge.

The pure number 9 joined Napoli from Real Madrid for 40 million euros. He is currently valued in the range of 42 million pounds by Napoli, but it will be interesting to see how much he is eventually sold for.

Chelsea FC going for a face lift

The driving factor behind this deal is the rumoured exit of Diego Costa, who is being linked with a move back to his former club Atletico Madrid, where the no-holds-barred striker first made a name for himself before inflicting his temper on the Premier League.

If that were to happen, it would mean that all of the senior strikers playing for Chelsea FC at the start of the season would be gone in the summer. Radamel Falcao has been an overwhelming flop and will be moved on as soon as possible, while Loic Remy is on the lookout for better opportunities and is being linked with a move to China.

The Blues have already signed Brazilian striker Alexandre Pato and if they can lay their hands on Higuain, we could see Chelsea FC boasting of their very own South American strike force, although they have quite a lot of work to do before becoming the PL equivalent of MSN.
