Injury May Rule Chelsea FC’s Kurt Zouma Out Of French Euro 2016 Squad

Chelsea FC have been honing defender Kurt Zouma’s talent for quite some time now, but the Frenchman’s future for the rest of the season and the Euro 2016 might be in doubt, after he suffered an injury in the weekend match against Manchester United.

The Blues have been in horrendous form of late, but have shown signs of getting back to their usual best in recent matches, after Dutchman Guus Hiddink took over at the club. In fact, Hiddink is yet to lose a match in his second spell at Chelsea.

However, the Blues’ defence could be in for some difficult times with Kurt Zouma suffering a bad injury against Manchester United. The France international landed awkwardly on his leg before going down on the ground and screaming uncontrollably in pain.

Zouma was put on crutches after the match, but the severity of his injury is yet to be ascertained. According to reports, the Frenchman will undergo tests on Monday, and the condition of his injury can only be found out after that.

“It is better. We will see, I heard something but I feel better. Tomorrow (Monday), I will undergo tests and we will know more,” Zouma was quoted as saying by L’Equipe.

One man’s pain, another man’s opportunity

Gary Cahill had been rock solid at the heart of Chelsea’s defence for a number of years now, helping them win prestigious tournaments like the Champions League and the Premier League. However, this season, he has lost his place in the starting XI to Zouma. This has sparked many rumours about the Englishman’s imminent exit from the club.

While Zouma’s injury puts him in doubt for the French squad to the Euro 2016, it would mean a great opportunity for Cahill to prove to England manager Roy Hodgson that he is still one of the best defenders in the country, and book himself a spot in the English squad for the summer tournament.
