Dented Manchester City Need To Take It Game By Game, Believes Manuel Pellegrini

Manchester City’s chances of winning the Premier League were severely dented as they slumped to a heavy 3-1 defeat against Leicester City. However, their manager Manuel Pellegrini did not have many complaints about the match.

The only thing Pellegrini said was that he felt upset at the general way his team went about their business against the table toppers in the Saturday fixture.

“I don’t complain about one action of the game. I just complain about the way we played today,” Pellegrini was quoted saying on Sky Sports.

“A lot of things went wrong. We played against a very good team. It’s fair to give the merit they have, they’re playing well,” he further said. “We had a chance to recover points at home, we are six points behind. Now we have 39 points more to play for. We must focus game by game and try to beat Spurs here. We will also see what happens between Arsenal and Leicester. So many things can happen. Of course though, this was a defeat we didn’t expect.”

Foxes in the driving seat

With this win, Leicester City have now gone five points ahead at the top of the Premier League table, with Tottenham Hotspur leapfrogging the Cityzens into the second position after a 1-0 win over Watford FC. Pellegrini’s team could end up slipping further down the Premier League table, if Arsenal FC win their away fixture at AFC Bournemouth on Sunday.

Pellegrini himself agreed that Leicester City are now the best bets to win the Premier League. He said, “If Leicester continue playing the way they are [favourites]. There are 13 games more so it’s difficult to predict.”

However, what makes the title chase really interesting for the rest of the pack is the fact that the Foxes have some really big matches left, against the likes of Arsenal, Manchester United and  Chelsea. Manager Claudio Ranieri’s men are the favourites, but they would be under no pressure at all, as they will be completely excused, if they were to slip up from this position.
