From a commanding position in the Premier League, Arsenal FC have now fallen five points behind in the Premier League title race and custodian Petr Cech believes that the Gunners have only themselves to blame.
In a topsy-turvy season that has seen heavyweights Manchester United struggling to earn a European spot, and Chelsea FC fighting a relegation battle, Arsenal FC were tipped to be one of the favourites to win the Premier League title, for which they had to contend with challenges from Manchester City, and surprise leaders Leicester City.
However a few indifferent results later, the Gunners have fallen behind the pace in the title race, and in fact have gone back to the fourth spot on the table, a place that has become all too familiar at the Emirates over the last decade or so.
“We had the position where we could only look at ourselves, but now we are behind and we need some of the results to go our way,” Cech was quoted as saying in the Daily Mirror. “But there’s a long way to go and there is always a twist in the tail.”
Cech heaps praise on Forster
While both the keepers got their clean sheets in this match, it was Fraser Forster who went home with all the accolades, as the Saints managed to keep the Gunners at bay. Compared to Cech’s three saves in the entire match, Forster had made 10 saves, keeping the Arsenal FC attackers out of his goal. Thus, the Englishman got a lot of praise from his Czech counterpart.
“Fraser Forster robbed us of two points and it was only thanks to him that they got a point,” said Cech.
